Quick Guide

The purpose of the U. S. Army’s Freedom Team Salute Ambassador Program is to provide volunteers with effective tools to promote Freedom Team Salute (FTS) within their organizations and communities.

What is a U. S. Army Freedom Team Salute Ambassador?
Ambassadors make up a volunteer network dedicated to thanking Army Veterans for their service and thanking parents, spouses, and civilian employers who support Soldiers. They raise local awareness for Freedom Team Salute and have the opportunity to personally experience the impact this program has on the Army community.
What are the roles of a Freedom Team Salute Ambassadors?
Anyone who wishes to help recognize the influential supporters of Army Soldiers—parents, spouses, and civilian employers-- and Army Veterans for their military service can serve as an Ambassador. In addition, Ambassadors should have a willingness to seek opportunities to include Freedom Team Salute in local events. They may also have existing connections to the local Veteran/Soldier community.  Internet access is helpful, but not required.
What is the level of effort that will be required?
The level of effort is up to you. To remain active, you should communicate with the Freedom Team Salute staff to discuss how you are reaching out to those who support  Soldiers and Veterans in your community.  Outreach opportunities include (but are not limited to) local events, retirement ceremonies, dinners, deployments, or homecomings — wherever you can make a difference  FTS staff may contact you about  an event in your local area to see if you are available to participate. You can coordinate such participation and share lessons learned with the FTS program office.  Some Ambassadors coordinate 2 to 3 events a year; others coordinate 1 to 2 events a month. You decide how involved you want to be!
I don’t know enough about Freedom Team Salute to be an Ambassador.
The FTS staff provides an in-depth FTS Program brief  through monthly teleconferences held the second Thursday of every month. Individual training is available by telephone or in person, if you are within the DC Metro Area; such training will provide you with all the tools necessary to succeed.  A Freedom Team Salute team member will be with you all the way!
Are there guidelines required when representing the FTS Program?

The activities undertaken by Ambassadors reflect both the Freedom Team Salute Program and the U.S. Army; therefore,  they should conduct themselves professionally at all times. Ambassadors should not use their volunteer position to advance unrelated or personal activities or use information obtained during Freedom Team Salute outreach for any purpose other than to support their role as a Freedom Team Salute Ambassador.

Ambassadors are briefed in detail on the FTS Program and are given all the information needed to advocate the program to others. They may answer questions from the localmedia and outside community organizations only when it is within the scope of Freedom Team Salute. Any subject matter or questions that arise outside of Freedom Team Salute should be directed to Freedom Team Salute Program management. National media is handled only at the FTS Program Office or the Army level.

The Ambassador official roster is to be used only for Freedom Team Salute activities and outreach — not for distribution to conduct other business.
